Unless they are both part of the same unitary project, conceived and executed together for the same expressive ends!
That’s absolutely the case with Rytius Records and a series of paintings called Fieldwork. So it’s especially gratifying that people have noticed and mentioned the cover, which is a painting from that very series.
The idea behind the series is the old philosophical distinction between essence and appearance, which has been the basis of many post-apocalyptic works: The Matrix comes immediately to mind.
But it doesn’t have to be high-tech and computerized. Life “should be” simple. There are a series of fields in which we tend to the daily work of our lives, and they are pretty simple when spoken. One needs love, food, shelter, clothing, meaningful work… But take any one of those and examine it: you’ll see quickly that each is so much more than it “should be”. There are several layers of exploitative mechanisms between us and the satisfaction of our needs.
Fieldwork is simply about removing those exploitative layers, so that we are finally able to work on what we actually need and want.
Rytius Records is a sort of fieldwork relating to the intellect, Geist: thus the cover painting, Fieldwork: Spirit (2023).
